BEIJING: President Xi Jinping received Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, on Tuesday during the final day of the UAE official’s visit to China, as both sides reviewed bilateral ties, economic cooperation and regional developments. The meeting placed the spotlight on a relationship that has expanded across trade, investment and energy, with the two sides reaffirming their comprehensive strategic partnership and their support for continued coordination on issues of shared concern.

According to China’s foreign ministry, Xi said the two countries should work for a more solid, resilient and dynamic partnership and deepen cooperation in areas including energy, investment, trade, science and technology, education, civil aviation and tourism. The ministry also said the Chinese president called for closer coordination in multilateral affairs and stressed the importance of respecting sovereignty, upholding international law and supporting stability across the Middle East and Gulf region.

Sheikh Khaled conveyed greetings from UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan during the talks, and Xi asked him to pass on his greetings and best wishes in return. The meeting followed a broader program of engagements during the crown prince’s April 12 to 14 visit, which included discussions on economic priorities and cross-border business ties as both countries moved to build on strong commercial links and widen cooperation in high-growth sectors.

Visit centers on trade and investment

The Abu Dhabi Media Office said the visit included discussions on expanding economic and investment partnerships and strengthening cooperation in fields linked to development priorities in both countries. It also said a business promotion conference was held alongside the trip and that non-oil trade between the UAE and China reached about US$111 billion in 2025, underlining the scale of a relationship that has become one of the region’s most significant commercial corridors.

Officials on both sides said agreements and memoranda of understanding were signed during the visit in areas including agriculture, science and technology, investment, clean energy, sustainable agriculture, environmental sustainability, health sciences and advanced technology. Chinese statements also pointed to interest in closer work on hydrogen, energy storage, electric vehicles, batteries and the digital economy, reflecting the broader industrial scope of the discussions held in Beijing.

    Regional issues also discussed

Beyond economic matters, the talks addressed wider regional and international developments, with both sides stressing support for peaceful solutions to conflicts and the importance of stability. Chinese and UAE statements said the discussions covered the need for stronger international coordination and continued dialogue, while Chinese officials also highlighted the importance of balancing development and security as part of efforts to preserve order and reduce tensions in the region.

The visit concluded with a series of political meetings and commercial engagements that brought together senior officials and business leaders from both countries, reinforcing a trip that combined state-level diplomacy with practical economic outcomes. With the Beijing meeting serving as the closing centerpiece, the visit underscored the breadth of China-UAE ties across diplomacy, trade, technology and energy, while staying anchored in agreements and positions publicly confirmed by both governments. – By Content Syndication Services.
